Every unit here is TRUE.

TRUE stands for Tested, Repaired, Used Equipment — our entry-level condition grade for rugged laptops that work perfectly but look like they've already been to work. Scratches, scuffs, worn paint: yes. Functional problems: no. Every TRUE unit is bench-tested, repaired where needed, and wiped by our technicians. You're paying for the machine, not the cosmetics.

What happens before a device earns the TRUE badge

Every unit goes through the same bench process in our Niagara-on-the-Lake facility. No exceptions, no drop-shipping.

Full diagnostic testing

Screen, keyboard, ports, battery health, Wi-Fi, GPS, touch — every function is bench-tested by a technician, not a checklist on a pallet.

Repair & parts replacement

Anything that fails testing gets repaired or replaced — batteries, drives, hinges, seals — using our in-house parts inventory.

Certified data erasure

Previous-owner data is securely wiped and a fresh, licensed operating system is installed. You get a clean machine, full stop.

Cosmetic grading

We photograph and grade the actual unit's condition honestly — these machines worked for a living, and we tell you exactly how they look.

Only then does the unit get listed with the TRUE badge — backed by the rugged books warranty.

TRUE standard: common questions

What does TRUE mean?
TRUE stands for Tested, Repaired, Used Equipment. It's the Rugged Books condition standard for pre-owned rugged devices: every TRUE unit has been fully bench-tested, repaired where needed, securely wiped, and cosmetically graded by our technicians before it's listed.
How is TRUE different from just buying used?
A typical used listing is sold as-is, often untested. A TRUE unit has been through a documented refurbishment process — diagnostics, repair, data erasure, and grading — and is backed by our warranty.
Who does the testing and repair work?
Our own technicians, in-house. Rugged Books has been refurbishing Panasonic Toughbook, Getac, Dell Rugged, and Durabook devices since 2016, and we hold R2, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018 certifications.
Is my device wiped of the previous owner's data?
Yes. Every TRUE unit gets certified data erasure and a fresh, licensed operating system install before it's listed for sale.
Do TRUE units come with a warranty?
Yes — every TRUE-certified unit is backed by the Rugged Books warranty. If something isn't right, we make it right.
